ABOUT STATE GRID CORPORATION OF CHINA
State-owned electricity utility State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC) recorded a revenue of $347bn in 2018 to emerge as the world’s biggest power companies, servicing industry, homes and electric vehicles.
Established in 2002 and headquartered in Beijing, SGCC distributes electricity in 26 provinces, covering 88% of the national territory. It serves a population of more than 1.1 billion in China. The utility also owns and operates transmission assets in the Philippines, Australia, Portugal, Italy and Brazil.
With 987,000km of transmission lines and 4,350GW of converting capacity, SGCC’s annual electricity sales exceed 3,874TWh.
According to Power-Technology.com, a website that provides market and customer insights in this sector, they listed these power companies (according to the 2018 Forbes calculation of net market capitalization, assets, sales and profit) as the biggest utilities:
